Cliffhanger Guides is the smallest rock climbing guide service in Joshua Tree National Park! We are a small, independent, owner-operated rock climbing guide service dedicated to providing the funnest, safest, most personalized rock climbing adventures in Joshua Tree National Park and beyond. We are Seth Zaharias and Sabra Purdy, a couple of fun loving folks who believe anybody can rock climb in the right terrain and with good coaching. From the first time beginner to the experienced rock climber, individuals and groups, technical instruction or play days, we play with kids age 6-100 years old. We build rock climbing trips to suit everyone’s climbing and adventure needs. No matter what level you climb at, we can help you improve your climbing capabilities.
Joshua Tree National Park is a climber’s paradise. With over 7000 routes Joshua Tree is the largest climbing area in the world! Top-roping, single pitch freestanding summits, multi-pitch climbing, bouldering, crack climbing, slab climbing, you name it, Joshua Tree’s got it! Best weather in Joshua Tree is from October to May. With march and April being generally near perfect 70 degrees. Hot in the sun cold in the shade describes a classic Joshua Tree spring day.
Beyond rock climbing Joshua Tree is simply a place of beauty and awe. Described by some as a “giant Dr. Suess book,” many species of rare desert plants and animals inhabit this strange land including big horn sheep, desert tortoises, frogs, 7 kinds of rattle snake, red barrel cactus, and the unique Joshua Tree itself (actually a type of yucca, not a tree). The native Americans have been calling Joshua Tree home for thousands of years, as evidenced by the many pictographs found throughout the park. Joshua Tree is truly a unique landscape that begs to be explored.
